Dream Works Driving School isn’t your average “sit and stall” lesson. We’re an independent Brisbane driving school specialising in manual lessons (yes, we also do auto — but #SaveTheManuals is in our DNA).
Founded by Clem Chan, a driving instructor with 7+ years of experience and 500+ learners trained, Dream Works blends structured, no-fluff lessons with a calm, patient approach. Whether you’re brand new behind the wheel or getting ready for your test, we teach the way most people actually learn — step by step, confidence first.
“I think this was always my calling — I just didn’t know it at first. I learnt manual only because my friends did (I didn’t even know what it was back then). Between jobs as a kids’ Kung Fu instructor and an Uber driver, I picked up a passenger who changed everything. After dropping them off near Ikea Slacks Creek, I noticed 5–6 driving school cars in the area — and the rest, as they say, is history.”
Since 2018, I’ve trained over 500 learners across Brisbane. My teaching method is different — it’s structured, detailed, and designed for the majority of learners, not just a lucky few. Most new drivers struggle with vehicle control and nerves. By breaking things down step by step, I build confidence, smooth skills, and calm decision-making that lasts beyond the test.
Passing the test is great — but driving is bigger than that. My proudest moments aren’t the easy passes, but the students who started with zero confidence and now drive for life. One went on to be a safari guide in South Africa with their manual licence; another is set to join our team as an instructor.
At Dream Works, we live by one principle: “Slow is smooth, and smooth is safe.” Driving is done with your eyes first, hands and feet second. What motivates me most is watching people achieve a skill they thought was impossible — and knowing they’ll carry it forever.
